Apple Spice Butter

A quick and easy recipe for homemade Apple Spice Butter, perfect for spreading on toast, muffins, pancakes, and more. It takes just minutes to whip up and captures the cozy flavors of fall.
Prep Time 5 minutes

Equipment

  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Whisk (optional)
  • Hand mixer (optional)
  • Stand Mixer (optional)

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), room temperature - KEY! Must be soft.
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice or substitute (see notes)
  • 0.33 cup powdered sugar (confectioners' sugar)

Instructions

  • Grab a medium-sized bowl. It doesn't need to be fancy, just big enough to hold everything and give you room to mix.
  • Add your room temperature butter, the honey, the apple pie spice, and the powdered sugar right into the bowl. Get it all in there!
  • Now, it's time to mix. You can totally do this with a sturdy whisk and some elbow grease – just mash and stir until everything is combined. Or, if you've got a hand mixer or a stand mixer, this is where they shine! Beat on medium speed. Start slow so the powdered sugar doesn't fly everywhere!
  • Keep beating until all the ingredients are fully incorporated. You'll see it transform from separate ingredients into one beautiful, smooth, creamy, and slightly fluffy butter mixture. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to make sure everything gets mixed in.
  • And that's it! Seriously. You now have homemade Apple Spice Butter ready to go.

Notes

Butter temperature is non-negotiable – ensure it's room temperature for proper incorporation. Scrape down the bowl during mixing, especially with an electric mixer. Don't overmix; stop once smooth and creamy. This butter is perfect for making ahead. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks, or freeze for 3-4 months. It's delicious on toast, bagels, muffins, pancakes, waffles, cornbread, sweet potatoes, baked squash, or melted over cooked vegetables.
