Caprese Sandwich

A fresh, flavorful, and effortless Caprese Sandwich recipe featuring ciabatta rolls, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil pesto, and your favorite deli meat, drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

Ingredients
  

Sandwich Components

  • 8 rolls ciabatta rolls Slice each one in half horizontally.
  • 16 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese Slice thinly.
  • 2 large tomatoes Ripe, juicy tomatoes. Slice thinly.
  • 6.5 ounces basil pesto Spread generously on the inside of both halves of the rolls.
  • 16 ounces deli meat Salami, turkey, ham, or a mix. Layer on the bottom half of each roll.
  • 0.5 cup fresh basil, chopped Scatter over the fillings.
  • 4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar High quality or glaze. Drizzle over the fillings.
  • pinch salt Sprinkle over the layers.
  • grind black pepper Freshly ground, if possible. Sprinkle over the layers.
  • pinch crushed red pepper Optional, for those who like a little kick.

Instructions
 

  • Prep Your Rolls: Grab your ciabatta rolls and slice each one in half horizontally.
  • Pesto Power: Spread a generous layer of basil pesto on the inside of both the top and bottom halves of each roll.

  • Slice and Dice: Thinly slice your fresh mozzarella and your tomatoes.

  • Layer Up: On the bottom half of each roll, layer on the sliced fresh mozzarella, then the tomato slices, and your chosen deli meat.

  • Seasoning Time: Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over your layers.

  • Basil Sprinkle: Scatter the chopped fresh basil over the fillings.

  • Drizzle with Delight: Drizzle your balsamic vinegar or glaze over the fillings.

  • Optional Heat: If you enjoy a little warmth, sprinkle a pinch of crushed red pepper over the top.

Notes

For best results, assemble the sandwiches just before serving to prevent sogginess. You can slice mozzarella and tomatoes ahead of time and store them separately. If you have leftovers, store fillings separately and assemble just before eating.
