French Onion Ground Beef and Rice Casserole

Ingredients
  

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (450g)
  • 0.5 tsp garlic salt or to taste

Liquids and Grains

  • 2 cans beef consomme (10.5 oz each)
  • 2 cans French onion soup (10.5 oz each)
  • 180 ml water (¾ cup)
  • 2 cups long grain white rice uncooked
  • 170 g butter sliced (1 ½ sticks)

Instructions
 

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat; drain off any excess grease.
  • Stir in the garlic salt and cook for 1 minute more.
  • In a large bowl, combine the browned beef, consomme, French onion soup, and water.
  • Stir in the uncooked rice.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Top with sliced butter.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through and the casserole is bubbly.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of beef broth and French onion soup.
