Lemon Brownies

These zesty lemon brownies offer a delightful twist on a classic treat, combining the richness of chocolate with the bright tang of lemon. The perfect balance of sweet and tart makes them irresistible.

Ingredients

  • * 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • * 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • * 1 cup powdered sugar
  • * 4 large eggs
  • * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • * Zest of 1 lemon
  • * 2 teaspoons lemon zest for extra lemon flavor
  • * 4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • * 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • * 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • * 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips (if using).
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached (it shouldn't be completely clean).
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a more intense lemon flavor, add an extra tablespoon or two of lemon zest or juice. You can also substitute dark chocolate chips for semisweet. If you prefer a fudgier brownie, underbake by a few minutes.
