Store-bought or homemade

Instructions
Cube the pound cake into small pieces.
In a bowl, gently toss the mixed berries with sugar and lemon juice.
Layer the trifle glasses: start with a layer of pound cake, followed by a layer of berries, and then a layer of custard.
Repeat the layers (cake, berries, custard) until the glasses are almost full.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Before serving, top with a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use homemade vanilla custard. You can also substitute other berries or fruits.
