Smashed Tater Tots

  • 1 pound frozen tater tots Any brand

Flavor Infusion

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter Melted
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon garlic powder

Optional Garnishes

  • sour cream For serving
  • chives Finely chopped, for serving

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Spread frozen tater tots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not overcrowd.

  • In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  • Pour the butter mixture evenly over the tater tots.

  • Gently smash each tater tot with a glass, the bottom of a measuring cup, or your hands to a flattened, rustic shape.

  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve immediately, optionally garnished with sour cream and chives.

Notes

For reheating, use a toaster oven or regular oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes until crispy again. Can also be air fried at 390°F (195°C) for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway.
