Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes

Equipment

  • medium-sized saucepan
  • Potato Masher optional, for chunkier texture
  • Blender or food processor optional, for smooth texture
  • Immersion blender optional, for smooth texture

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 5 ripe pears peeled and chopped
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  • Grab a medium-sized saucepan. Add your peeled and chopped pears, the ½ cup of water, and that tablespoon of lemon juice. Give it a little stir.
  • Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once it's bubbling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer away for about 20-30 minutes, until the pears are super soft and tender.
  • Once the pears are fork-tender, carefully remove the saucepan from the heat. Use a potato masher for a chunkier texture, or transfer to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  • Stir in the ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger, and the ¼ cup of maple syrup. Mix everything together.
  • Return the saucepan to low heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Cook until the mixture thickens to your preferred butter consistency, about 15-20 minutes. It should coat the back of a spoon nicely.
