Immersion blender optional, for smooth texture
Ingredients
Main ingredients
5ripe pearspeeled and chopped
0.5cupwater
1tablespoonlemon juice
0.5teaspooncinnamon
0.25teaspoonground ginger
0.25cupmaple syrup
Instructions
Grab a medium-sized saucepan. Add your peeled and chopped pears, the ½ cup of water, and that tablespoon of lemon juice. Give it a little stir.
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Once it's bubbling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer away for about 20-30 minutes, until the pears are super soft and tender.
Once the pears are fork-tender, carefully remove the saucepan from the heat. Use a potato masher for a chunkier texture, or transfer to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
Stir in the ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger, and the ¼ cup of maple syrup. Mix everything together.
Return the saucepan to low heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. Cook until the mixture thickens to your preferred butter consistency, about 15-20 minutes. It should coat the back of a spoon nicely.
Notes
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for up to 3 months. Can also be canned following proper guidelines.
