  • Whisk
  • Airtight container for storage
  • Mason jar for storage

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 0.33 cup soy sauce salty, umami base
  • 0.25 cup honey for that irresistible sticky sweetness
  • 2 tbsp ketchup adds a touch of tang and lovely color
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar brightens everything up with a gentle acidity
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil the magic ingredient for that authentic nutty flavor
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch our thickening agent for that perfect sticky consistency
  • 2 tbsp water to help our cornstarch do its job
  • 1 tsp grated ginger fresh is best for a vibrant kick!
  • 1 clove garlic minced, because garlic makes everything better
  • Sesame seeds for garnish – toasted ones are extra special!
  • Green onions chopped, for a fresh, pretty finish

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, ketchup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Stir to combine.
  • In a separate small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth to create a slurry.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and warm the sauce mixture until it just begins to simmer around the edges.
  • Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce while whisking continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  • Let the sauce simmer for another 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to ensure the cornstarch is fully cooked.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly. It will thicken further as it cools.
  • Spoon the sauce over your favorite dishes and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

This sauce is great for gifting and can be made ahead of time. It stores well in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir or shake before using if the cornstarch settles.
